Autumn light

Doesn’t the heatwave seem a while ago?  Two weeks ago my good friends Alison, Julian and Charlotte were staying. We went for a remarkable walk across the hills (to pick up more wood turned candlesticks from Edmund – new stock in store soon!).

The light was extraordinary on that still, soft, warm day. This weekend, by contrast, the breeze has been sharp and there is a chill in the air – but still beautiful, brilliant sunshine.

I think these are my favourite days. They suit my mood just now, as summer slips into autumn and we turn our thoughts to Christmas and winter. I don’t think we’ve ever been so busy in the office as at the moment. Quiet days in Dorset become all the more special…

What lucky friends! A weekend at Dorset must have amazing restorative power.

Thank you for your mention of The Complete Gardener by Monty Don. I received my copy yesterday and am finding it full of good information even for my US garden.
