Happy New Year, Ben! Have just put on a pan of home made pea and mint soup (more a spring flavour but so easy to make thought it would be suitable/soupable for winter!) Hope you have had a good Christmas and look forward to your blog in the New Year. The oranges on the mantelpiece looks great – nothing fancy, just a vibrant colour and a lovely scent. I managed to find some white cyclamen with which to grace our mantelpiece.

It didn’t occur to me that you would post something on Christmas Day, but today is Monday and, used as I am to my Monday morning fix (strong coffee in hand, cat on lap), I thought I’d check and here you are. Delighted though I am to see your blog I really rather hoped that you would still have your feet up. Don’t burn yourself out Mr P, your blogs are so delightful, we would all be rather bereft if that happened. Rest and relax.

Ben, a very merry Christmas to you and your family! Where else to find the “vibe” but in family? 2013 was my first Christmas without my mother, who passed in Jan 2012. I design my own card each year, so of course this year’s card was a tribute to her (you can see it on my blog, if interested.) I got lovely responses to it from my family–at least those of my own generation, who are also at an age to appreciate the ever-receding Past and the pleasures of partaking of family memories.

The blog photos are wonderful, dreamy, a perfect contribution to the iconography of The Christmas Spirit. Snow, warmed by the reflected glow of lights from within, picture glass reflecting the twinkle of candlelight and Christmas trees, and over all the invisible but readily evident tide of joy, contentment and sentiment that envelops us as at no other time of the year.

Happy Christmas and a healthy, prosperous New Year to you and Bridie! Looking forward to another year of lovely posts!

Best of everything to you, Ben!

Love,

diane

Where do you get your nice plain parchment lampshades that cast such a lovely light in your pink sitting room.

Just caught up with your last two posts after our own family Christmas. Best wishes to you and all at Pentreath Towers from East Devon; looking forward to another year of the Best of Blogs! PS. Too befuddled to offer sensible comments on interior decorations other than be BOLD!

A belated happy, peaceful, domestic Christmas with family and friends with an odd multi generational walk with a dog to blow the cobwebs away. I hope that the New Year is calm, sunny and cold, no more wet and windy weather. Thank you for the snowy photo looking down the B. valley. One of my favourite views.
I hope that the coming year will be a very happy and healthy one for you.

Ben, these photos are so lovely and evocative of an English Christmas. For this Anglophile living in Los Angles, they are a wonderful Christmas gift. I have enjoyed reading your blog for years and wish you the happiest of holidays!

Happy, Happy Christmas to You

I’m glad you’ve recovered, Ben. But for the fellow-sufferer (winter solstice blues) your candor about that is welcome too. Thanks for your weekly doses of insight, drollery, fresh point of view, visual treats. Your posts actually do provide Inspiration, and not just aesthetically. Merry Christmas.
